Raffia is a plant fibre used in many ways. As surprising as it may seem, it comes from a palm tree native to Madagascar called Raphia farinifera, part of the family Arecaceae.

The fibre from the leaves of this palm tree, once treated, washed, dried and brightly coloured, is also used to weave or crochet traditional objects such as baskets, placemats, mats, boxes or hats!
